Out of all the Preliminary examination is objective in nature comprising of 2 paper : GS Prelims paper I and GS Prelims paper 2 ( also known as Civil Services Aptitude Test which is qualifying in nature ) Examination .The GS Prelims comprises of 100 questions ( each question carries 2 marks ) making total of 200 marks. General studies prelims paper I is cut-off based exam which varies every year. The syllabus for General Studies paper I is as follow :
Civil Services Aptitude Test comprise of total 80 questions ( each question carries 2.5 marks ) making total of 200 marks . CSAT is qualifying in nature candidate have to score 66 marks out of 200 ( 33% marks ) to clear the CSAT .
NOTE: Both GS Prelims paper I & GS Prelims paper II ( CSAT ) are objective and qualifying in nature. Their marks will not be considered in making of final list of selected candidate. Candidate who will clear the Prelims examination will get chance to write mains examination.
UPSC Civil Services Mains Examination being subjective in nature consist of 9 papers out of which only 7 papers are considered for final merit list , which can be divided as :
Mains Examination is of 1750 marks being subjective in nature. It is cutoff based which varies every year .The Marks of Mains Examination will be considered for final merit list and selection of candidates for Personality Test.
UPSC conducts the personality test of candidate who qualified UPSC Mains Examination. The marks of both Mains Examination and the Personality test will be considered for deciding final merit list . The main objective of the Personality test is to assess the personality of candidate on the number of parameters . It is expected that candidate aspiring to be IAS , IPS , IFS must possess certain qualities which are as follow :
The Personality test is conducted only at the one centre – UPSC Building at New Delhi . Candidate appearing for the UPSC will receive a travel allowance . Also candidate need to bring the e-summon letter and appear on the assign date.
The UPSC Interview is usually conducted by the 6-7 boards simultaneously. Each candidate will be interviewed by the board who will have the record of candidate provided in the form of Detailed Application Form (DAF).
Nationality : Candidate aspiring to appear for the UPSC Civil Services examination must me citizen of India . For other posts, candidates can check the nationality details on the official notification by the Commission.
Age Limit for IAS :
The candidates must have attained 21 years of age and be less than 32 years of age i.e., the candidate must have been born not earlier than 2nd August 1993 and not later than 1st August 2004.
Candidates must also be aware of the minimum age limit and maximum age limit for different categories. The details are given below.
