The Civil Services Examination is the dream job of lakhs of UPSC aspirants. Union Public Services Commission is responsible to conduct the Examination for 24 different Civil Services Examination including the most popular Indian Administrative Services ( IAS ) , Indian Police Services ( IPS ) , Indian Administrative Services ( IFS ) , Indian Revenue Services ( IRS ).
UPSC civil services exam is considered to be mother of all exam with selection rate less then 1 % . Every year lakhs of candidate appear for civil services exam but only few thousand manage to secure their name in final merit list. UPSC provides an opportunity to candidate to serve the nation at various position and capacities at such young age. This article aims to provide details regarding UPSC 2025 so that candidate can devise strategy accordingly .
UPSC has released the official calendar on 25th April 2025 . UPSC 2025 Notification will be released on 22nd January 2025 and UPSC CSE Prelims is scheduled to be conducted on 25th May 2025.
The UPSC notification contains all the relevant information related to exam dates, posts, vacancies, eligibility criteria, age relaxation, application form, the process of filling out the application form, Exam centers, Exam pattern, UPSC Syllabus etc.
UPSC conducts examination for two type of post . They are “Group A & Group B Services “. The list of the important Group A & Group B posts is given below.
The UPSC uploaded the exam dates for UPSC 2025 on its official website on 25 April 2024.
Notification for the UPSC CSE 2025 vacancy details will be released by UPSC. As per the 2025 UPSC Civil Services Examination notification the last date to fill the application for UPSC CSE 2025 through UPSC apply online portal is 11 February 2025. UPSC CSE was to be conducted on 25 May 2025.
Every year UPSC release the notification for recruitment of the Civil Servants for the top services such as India Administration Services , India Police Services , India Foreign Services to serve the nation. UPSC provide an opportunity to aspirants to be at higher position at such young age.
The candidates who have successfully registered for UPSC CSE at the official site will be issued an admit card for IAS Prelims exam about two to three weeks before the exam.

The process to fill the application for UPSC CSE Prelims will start on 22 January 2025 to 11 February 2025. The UPSC CSE Prelims will be conducted on 25th May 2025.
Candidates who will clear the Prelims examination will be eligible for Mains examination. The UPSC CSE Mains examination will began from 22 August 2025 onward.
Candidates who will clear the Mains examination shall be then eligible for Personality test .
Note : Though UPSC CSE Prelims is most difficult stage of the examination but marks of Prelims will not be considered for deciding final merit list. Marks of the UPSC CSE Mains examination & Personality test will be considered for deciding the final merit list
As per the 2025 official notification UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted to fill the vacancies of the following services :
Note: Thus for 24 different Civil Services the post are filled by the Civil Services Exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Every year lakhs of aspirants aspire to be secure their name in final merit list of UPSC but only few managed to do so. Out of all the post released by UPSC the most popular services are : Indian Administrative Services (IAS) , Indian Police Services (IPS) , Indian Foreign Services (IFS). Out of list of preference mentioned by candidate the services are allotted as per the rank secured by candidate.
The information regarding the centers of examinations both for Prelims & Mains is mentioned in UPSC Notification released by UPSC. If candidate want to get the center of their choice then they must fill the application as soon as possible as centers are allotted as per “first-come-first-served basis”.
Serious candidate must go through the official notification of UPSC to make sure that he/she is eligible for UPSC Examination or not as per the UPSC CSE 2024 rules & notifications. The eligibility criteria for UPSC CSE Examination can be divides under 5 heads:
For Indian Administrative Services (IAS) & Indian Police Services (IPS) :
For the post of Indian Administrative Services (IAS) & Indian Police Services (IPS) only citizen of India can apply.
For other Civil Services :
For the vacancies to the post of Civil Services (except IAS & IPS ) the candidate of citizen of India can apply & candidate of other nationality allowed are as follow:
Note : The candidate of citizen of Nepal , Bhutan , Tibetan refugee & PIO persons mentioned in (2) , (3), (4), (5) must provide an certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India. If candidate apply for Services without certificate of eligibility then candidate will not receive an offer of appointment.
Also the candidate of citizen of Nepal , Bhutan , Tibetan refugee & PIO persons mentioned in (2) , (3), (4), (5) are not eligible for Indian Foreign Services.
The eligible age limit for UPSC Civil Services examination as mentioned in UPSC Notification are as follow:
The candidate aspiring for Civil Services must be of 21 years age (minimum age) and less then 32 years age(maximum age) as of 1st August 2024 i.e. thus candidate must not have born earlier than 2nd August 1991 and not later than 1st August 2002. Age limit as per the UPSC CSE official notification is as follow :
The candidate must be graduated from the Government recognised University.
Candidate who are in the final year of their graduation or awaiting for the result of graduation are also eligible to apply for UPSC CSE Prelims Examination . Candidate must submit the proof of having completed graduation while filling the application for Mains Examination.
Medical students who have passed their MBBS but are yet to complete their internship are also eligible for UPSC CSE or IAS Exam. Candidate must submit the certificate of completion of course ( including the internship) while submitting their Mains application.
Each attempts matter. The number of attempts eligible for a candidate as per category are mentioned below :
For the General category candidate :
The number of attempts are : 6 attempts || Upper age limit : 32 years
For the Other backward category (OBC) category candidate :
The number of attempts are : 9 attempts || Upper age limit : 35 years
For the SC/ST category candidate :
The number of attempts are : unlimited attempts (till the upper age limit)
Upper age limit : 32 years
For the Disabled Defense Services Personnel category candidate :
For the Ex-Servicemen category candidate :
For the Person with Benchmark Disability category candidate :
The number of attempts are : 9 attempts || Upper age limit : 42 years
Notification for the Civil Services has also laid down the amount of the fees that candidate has to pay to register for UPSC CSE.
The application fees to be paid by candidate for UPSC prelims is Rs.100/-, and for the UPSC mains exam is Rs.200/-.
The candidate from the category of schedule caste / schedule tribe / women / disabled are exempt from paying the fees for registration of application for UPSC CSE.
Payment for the registration of UPSC CSE Prelims can be done either “online mode” or through “cash mode”. To pay in cash choose “Pay by cash” mode and generate the “pay-in-slip” for which the cash can be deposited at SBI Branch.
Note : It is advised that candidate should pay the registration fees before the last date of registration.
The UPSC provides for the detailed procedure to apply for the application of UPSC Civil Services Examination . Candidate must go through the UPSC Notification properly to be aware of the changes introduced .

2) Navigate to the UPSC Civil Services Examination Link
3) Click on Fill Part-I Registration
4) Once the registration number is generated, use it to fill out Part-II Registration
5) Click on submit once done.
Important Points to be taken care of while filling UPSC CSE application :
Candidate should note that UPSC Prelims for Civil Services Examination & Indian Forest Services ( IFoS) is same so candidate must specify that candidate is applying for Civil Services or Forest Services or both.
The medium, language and optional subject selection are required for mains exam only but they have to be specified while applying for the prelims itself.
NOTE : Candidates are advised to read the UPSC Notification & instruction carefully before filling the application for UPSC CSE as once information is submitted then no changes can be made .
